The rumors are swirling, and everyone is very worried that Chipotle is closing its doors for good. But is the famous quick-service restaurant really going out of business, or is it all just a viral rumor that has gotten out of hand? I wanted to find out!
Here is everything you need to know about Chipotle and the future of your favorite burrito spot.

Is Chipotle Going Bankrupt?
You have probably seen all the reports that Chipotle is going out of business. There have been so many rumors circulated suggesting that the famous Mexican Grill is closing its doors or declaring bankruptcy. These claims are unfounded, and Chipotle is not closing.
In reality, Chipotle is not only financially stable but also actively expanding its operations. The company plans to open between 315 and 345 new restaurants in 2025, with over 80% featuring a “Chipotlane,” the brand’s drive-thru format. Not only can you still get your favorite rice bowl, but you will also be able to pick it up without ever getting out of the car!

Who Started the Rumor That Chipotle Is Closing?
The misinformation about Chipotle closing appears to have originated from a report by the Spanish media outlet Uniรณn Rayo. The original article that caused all the drama reported the closure of Farmesa Fresh Eatery, a spinoff venture that Chipotle tested for a few months in 2023. The report led to confusion, causing many to believe that Chipotle itself was shutting down.
This misunderstanding spread rapidly on social media platforms like X, prompting expressions of concern and disappointment from thousands of users. In response, Chipotle sought a correction from Uniรณn Rayo and received an apology for the inaccurate reporting.
What Is Farmesa Fresh Eatery?
Farmesa Fresh Eatery was a restaurant concept launched by Chipotle in 2023, located in a Santa Monica food hall. The single location restaurant aimed to offer a menu featuring proteins, greens, grains, and vegetables. Customers could create their own meal just like at a classic Chipotle. However, the concept never really took off and was short-lived. Chipotle decided to close Farmesa to focus more on its core brand.
So while Chipotle’s main restaurant is not closing, Farmesa is. You can see why this may confuse people!
Is Chipotle Still Open?

Yes! Chipotle remains open and continues to serve its customers across its numerous locations. The company is not closing! In fact, it is on a growth trajectory with plans to significantly increase its number of restaurants. So, if you’re craving a burrito or bowl, your local Chipotle is probably open right now, ready to make your favorites!
