Pin RecipeThe Ultimate Game Day Appetizer
Game day is practically synonymous with buffalo chicken. Wings are the classic, Buffalo Chicken Nachos, Buffalo Chicken Sliders, and Buffalo Chicken Sandwich are all delicious, but this creamy, cheesy buffalo chicken dip has become my signature recipe for parties—and my #1 appetizer recipe on All Things Mamma year after year and especially during football season!
I love that it can be made in the slow cooker or the oven, and although it is spicy, the cheesiness helps tame the heat so it’s not TOO much. It’s absolute perfection and I guarantee that if you bring this to a party, it will become your signature recipe too!

Tips for Making Buffalo Chicken Dip
This recipe is incredibly easy, but these additional pointers will help you make sure it turns out perfect every time!
- Let the cream cheese come to room temperature. It will mix more smoothly into the rest of the ingredients that way, and it will also melt faster!
- Keep it warm on the go. If you bake your buffalo chicken dip in a dish, use a thermal carrier to keep your dish warm if you’re bringing it to a party. I love mine and use it often!

Variations
I love this buffalo chicken dip as written, but there are some variations to try:
- Use cooked chicken. While this recipe calls for canned chicken, you can substitute shredded rotisserie chicken or 2 whole cooked chicken breasts.
- Swap out the ranch. I think ranch is perfect because it cools down the hot sauce, but you could Blue Cheese Dressing if you’d like.
- Add blue cheese crumbles. I don’t have this on my dip BUT it’s a hit for a lot of people. Try it out!
- Lighten it up. Try my Healthy Buffalo Chicken Dip!

How to Store
Keep leftover buffalo chicken dip covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. Reheat in a 350ºF oven or the microwave, stirring every couple of minutes.
You can also freeze leftovers in a sealed airtight container. When you want to reheat it, just remove it from the freezer and allow to thaw in the fridge, then reheat it in the microwave or a 350ºF oven.
Delicious Dippers for Buffalo Chicken Dip
I love carb-y dippers like chips, crackers, and bread, but if you’re doing keto, this dip is spot on! Just make sure to use celery, carrot sticks, or peppers to dip with.
- Fritos Scoops
- Tortilla Chips
- Club Crackers
- Ritz Crackers
- Baguette Slices

My family absolutely loves this dip! They fight over it when I make it. It is so easy and is customizable as well, which I love. This was the first one I tried and it will be the last. All others will pale in comparison!
I am about to make this and can I just say how much I LOVE that you included recipe amounts in the directions!!!! So helpful as I hate scrolling back up to see how much, etc. THANK YOU!

Thank you, Rhonda!
This is the perfect tasting buffalo dip. So easy to make on a whim when a craving strikes. Also delicious to sub bleu cheese for ranch.
Thank you. This is a keeper!
Thank you, Sherri! We’re so glad you enjoyed it! What do you like to serve it with?
Thanks for introducing me to the chicken flavored crackers. I didn’t even know such things existed lol! They definitely add a little razzle dazzle to the recipe!
We love them!
My 17 yr old daughter was wanting chicken buffalo dip for New Years Eve, and I came across your recipe. I’m so thankful this was the recipe we tried because it was better than most dips that I have tried in the past. My daughter made it all on her own and was extremely proud of how it came out. Thanks for recipe.
Thank you so much! We’re happy to hear it turned out well for you. 😊
This has been my go to recipe for gatherings because of so many compliments from those who taste it!

We’re so glad you enjoyed it, Stacey!
Can I make day before then bake it on game day?
Yes! Combine the ingredients as directed, store them covered in the fridge for up to 3 days, and cook on game day!
this recipe ROCKS!! already made it twice and my fiancé has requested it a 3rd time!! lol love this so much. so easy to throw together too!
Thank you, Cassidy! We’re so happy to hear it!
Can I prep this the night before to save time?
Love this recipe! The oven option is preferred for me because the cheese on top gets crispy! I don’t generally even like buffalo sauce or flavored things but this is the exception. It’s really not spicy either! I can only handle a little spice.
I want to make this dip, but can’t take to much heat, and for kids, what could I use for the hot sauce. Thanks
This was a crowd favorite! Took it to an ugly sweater party and had to hide some for me to bring home left overs. I’m making it again by request for another Christmas family party at the request of my SIL.
The children and adults at the Homeschool co-op Christmas party really liked the dip including my children. My husband loved it too even though I made it mild with just a dash of hot sauce! Easy recipe with the crockpot!
So easy and fast. Tastes great too.
