Pin RecipeOnly 4 Ingredients—And Not One of Them Is Cake Mix!
Okay, you know I love a cake mix hack, so maybe you were expecting that one of the ingredients would be cake mix. But nope! The trick here is using self-rising flour.
Self-rising flour has the leavening agent mixed in already, which streamlines your baking process. And this 4-ingredient banana bread never disappoints! Perfectly sweet, the bread comes out with a that signature banana flavor and an incredibly tender crumb. You may never go back to other recipes again! (Although I definitely recommend this Banana Zucchini Bread too!)

My Best Tips for Perfect Banana Bread
- Use brown bananas. I wait until they go from yellow to speckled to completely brown, which gives you the SWEETEST bread with the sassiest banana flavor. (You can expedite the process if you need your banana bread ASAP: How to Ripen Bananas Quickly.)
- Don’t overmix. The key to light, fluffy banana bread is to mix just until the dry ingredients are incorporated. Mixing too much will give you a dense loaf without much rise.
- Let the eggs come to room temperature. Room temperature eggs hold more air when beaten. This is another trick for fluffier baked goods!
- Make it easy to slice and serve. To easily remove the bread, line your pan with parchment paper, letting some hang over the sides. Once baked, all you have to do is lift the edges, and your banana bread will pop right out so you can get nice, clean slices.

Variations
- Make gluten-free 4-ingredient banana bread by using your favorite brand of gluten-free self-raising flour.
- Add some delicious texture to this recipe by mixing chopped nuts, raisins, or blueberries into the batter.
- Fold chocolate chips into the batter for pockets of indulgence in every bite.
- Use the banana bread batter to make banana muffins instead of a bread loaf! Prepare the batter as usual. Then, pour it into greased muffin tins, filling each cup 3/4 of the way full. Bake for 20 minutes or until the muffins are puffy, lightly golden, and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Serving Suggestions
You can easily serve this 4-ingredient banana bread recipe on its own. However, I like to top mine with butter, Nutella spread, or peanut butter for extra flavor!

How To Store + Freeze 4-Ingredient Banana Bread
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to five days. Or, transfer it to the fridge for up to seven days. To keep it fresh, wrap the entire loaf or individual slices in plastic wrap. Then, transfer them to an airtight container or sealable bag.
- Freeze leftover bread for up to three months. Once cooled, wrap it in plastic wrap followed by aluminum foil to prevent it from drying out!
- Thaw frozen bread in the fridge overnight. Then, serve it chilled, or warm individual slices for 20 to 30 seconds in the microwave, and enjoy.

- Large mixing bowl
- Fork
- Measuring cups
- Rubber spatula
- Ingredients
Ingredients
- 4 ripe bananas
- 2 eggs
- ¾ cup light brown sugar
- 1 ½ cups self-rising flour
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350ºF. Spray a loaf pan with baking spray and dust the pan with flour.
- Add the bananas to a large mixing bowl. Mash them well with a fork so there are no large pieces. A few smaller pieces are okay!
- Add the eggs and whisk them into the bananas with the fork.
- Add the sugar and self-rising flour and mix everything together well to form a thick batter.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread the batter evenly in the pan.
- Bake the banana bread for 50 minutes. The banana bread will be pulling away from the edges of the pan and a toothpick inserted into the center on the bread will come out cleanly.
- Let the banana bread cool for about 15 minutes in the pan then flip it out onto a cooling rack. Slice and enjoy!
